Google, Facebook have already removed disputed content, Indian court is told

typing

Google and Facebook today told an Indian court that they have already removed the objectionable content that was the source of a civil suit against the duo and 19 other Internet companies, according to a report from NDTV.
The case is one of two pieces of legal action in India that has been taken out against the Internet companies accusing them of failing to remove content that mocks and criticises religious and cultural figures in the country.
Today’s hearing was for the suit filed by Mufti Aizaz Arshad Kazmi in December, and it is seperate to the other case which was submitted by journalist Vinay Rao. The second case remains ongoing as Facebook, Google, Yahoo and others protest that any expectation of real-time censorship of content is simply not feasible.
Controversy around the issue first began in December when it was revealed that acting telecom minister Kapil Sibal had held a series of meeting with the companies in what was reportedly a bid for real-time censoring.
Sibal later denied the claims of the real-time request, saying he had been misquoted, however he did state his belief that India requires a new system to deal with objectionable content, beyond the filters and management that Google and others have in place.
The flames of controversy were further fanned when a local court ordered Facebook and Google to remove content, while a national court later claimed that authorities would not hestitate to introduce Chinese-style censorship if they failed to act.
India’s minister for communications and IT has since denied that the government is looking to censor Web firms and, with the admission that the objectionable content has been removed, things may settle down for now.
However, the case raises longer term questions as Indian authorities are clearly unhappy that their view and standards for what constitutes censorable content is not shared by the firms. As Google and Facebook stand by their standards, the courtroom has become the only to challenge them.
With two cases in progress already, we may well see more legal action unless Google, Facebook and others can convince authorities that they are fighting for the same values.

How to Copy a Copyprotected CD

Removing Copy Protection on CDs

This guide explains how to copy music CDs that are copy-protected with ‘copy control technology.’ You need a PC with Windows XP and a CD writer.

Step 1: Download IsoBuster

The first step is to download and install IsoBuster, a program used to salvage data from damaged CDs and DVDs. IsoBuster is a commercial program, but you can run it in freeware mode, where it has limited functionality, which is fine for our purposes.

Step 2: Create a Folder for the Audio Tracks

The idea is to use IsoBuster to extract the hidden audio tracks from the protected CD and burn them to a normal CD, so the first thing to do is create a folder somewhere to store the audio tracks. I suggest your Windows desktop.

Step 3: Open the Copy-Protected CD with IsoBuster

First, start up IsoBuster and hold down your shift key while inserting your copy-protected CD.
I recommend that you hold down the shift key because it blocks the Windows ‘autorun’ feature, i.e., prevents the CD from launching programs automatically.

After inserting the CD, you should now see something like the following:

IsoBuster Screenshot #1

As you can see, the CD has two sessions, unlike a normal audio CD, which only has one. The actual audio tracks are stored in session 1. Session 2 contains files, which are used when you insert the CD into a Windows box or a Macintosh. For our purposes we are only interested in the audio tracks, so we'll ignore session 2 completely.

To get at the audio tracks with IsoBuster, click on session 1 on the left in the IsoBuster window. You should now see the audio tracks displayed on the right:

IsoBuster Screenshot #2

Step 4: Extract the Audio Tracks

Use your mouse to mark all the audio tracks in the right part of the window, then right click and choose ‘Extract Objects’ from the menu:

IsoBuster Screenshot #3

IsoBuster will ask you for a destination directory; choose the one you created previously:

Now wait for the files to copy...

Step 5: Burn the Audio Tracks onto a Blank CD

Now open your favourite CD burning software and use it to create an Audio CD. Drag the tracks from the folder where IsoBuster placed them into your Audio CD project, make sure they appear in the right order, and then burn. When you are finished, the resulting CD will contain all the tracks from the original copy-protected CD, but in a non-protected format. It should play on all players and can be MP3-encoded for use on your portable MP3 player.
Enjoy!

Ways to Speed Up Your Computer Using Regedit

Speed up your Windows 7 computer by using regedit to tweak some of the operating system's default settings. In an attempt to make Windows 7 more intuitive, programmers at Microsoft set up numerous non-critical and unnecessary popups and conditions, such as balloon notifications, menu delays and hung application processing. These can all be disabled through regedit.

Disable Notification Balloons

  • Notification balloons pop up on your desktop any time something non-critical happens within an application. To disable these notifications, open regedit and navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER," "Software," "Microsoft," "Windows," "CurrentVersion," "Explorer" and "Advanced." Right-click the right pane, open the "New" sub-menu and click on "DWORD." Type "EnableBalloonTips" into the box and press enter. Double-click "EnableBalloonTips," type 0 into the box and click "OK."

Speed Up Hung Apps

  • Every now and again, an application malfunctions and becomes "hung." When this occurs, Windows 7 takes a moment to analyze the application before it purges it from memory. Adjusting the time the Windows operating system takes to complete this purge can significantly decrease the amount of time the system takes to recover from a hung application. Adjust this time by opening regedit; navigating to "KEY_CURRENT_USER," "Control Panel" and "Desktop;" double-clicking "HungAppTimeout" from the right pane; changing its value to 1000 and clicking "OK."

Disable Paging Executive

  • Core system files known as "kernel-mode drivers" sit on your local disk, but your operating system would run faster if they were loaded into memory. This can be accomplished by disabling paging executive. Open regedit, navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE," "SYSTEM," "CurrentControlSet," "Control," "Session Manager" and "Memory Management." Double-click "DisablePaging Executive" from the right pane, adjust its value to 1 and click "OK."

Adjust Start Menu Delay

  • A slight delay occurs every time you access a cascading menu within the "Start" menu. You can adjust this delay by adjusting the "MenuShowDelay" property in Windows 7. Open regedit, navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER," "Control Panel" and "Desktop." Double-click "MenuShowDelay," change its value to 100 and click "OK." Instead of having to deal with delays, you will now encounter near-instant menu appearances.

Virtual DJ Fully Cracked

Digital deejaying has skyrocketed in popularity over the past five years and it's no wonder why. Compared to a full vinyl setup with all the hardware and physical media it requires, an MP3-based mixing station is extremely simple and cheap. There's even free software to get you started, and one of the most popular programs available is Virtual DJ.

Virtual DJ is often packaged with USB-based hardware mixing consoles from the likes of Hercules and Numark, and, in fact, if you really want to delve into the full array of features, such devices are going to be a necessity--and they'll require a $99 license fee to upgrade to the Pro version of the software. That said, you can download the app for free by itself and make very basic mixes and playlists.
While the program isn't specifically geared at newbies, it is intuitive enough for a musically inclined individual to use right off the bat. Once installed, Virtual DJ automatically populates a folder tree in the bottom left corner where you can easily access your music collection. The bottom middle serves as a tabbed, multifunction area where you can browse tracks, sample music bites, add effects, and make recordings.

The top of the window is dominated by two digital turntables, which are distinguished by color: blue on the left and red on the right. Each one has the ability to cue, loop, adjust pitch, scratch, and shift (among other features). In the middle is the mixing console, where you can adjust the gain and master volume, as well as transition between the two tracks. Once the songs have been dragged and dropped into the console, a bar along the top displays the sound waves of each to help with visual mixing. There's also a video input option that lets you create montages to the music.

The stylish interface and high number of features score points, but learning how to use the program is a hit-or-miss proposition. To be perfectly honest, using it without mixing hardware (that is, just a mouse and keyboard) is a challenge, and not one we enjoyed, so we recommend hooking up a compatible USB controller. Also worth a look: the thorough online user guide.

Virtual DJ is free, fully featured, and well-laid-out. It's a useful option both for aspiring mixers and newbies.
