How to Edit a Registry File


Editing the registry file can speed your computer up, speed up boot time and remove annoyances like sending error reports to Microsoft every time a program becomes unresponsive. Editing the registry can also allow you to implement many other performance and function enhancing tweaks. Windows has built-in software to allow you to easily edit the registry called regedit. Although the functionality of regedit is somewhat limited, it is easy to use, it is already installed on your computer and you can make edits quickly without having to use a third-party program. Since Windows XP is the most widely used operating system, these steps apply only to XP.
